Off Topic: Get Legard off BBC F1 team
Posted on April 20th, 2009 by tomacintosh in uncategorized, tags: bbc, complaints, f1, james allen, legard, petitionI am starting this petition for the BBC to take note of the fact their current commentator for the Formula 1 campaign isn’t good enough. After reading several complaints on forums online, I have come to the decision the BBC needs to replace Jonathan Legard with former ITV commentator James Allen, or someone from his ilk.
Thanks

Strange thing is that Murray Walker (or someone pretending to be?) tweeted the following last night:-
“BBC asked me to return to the commentary box. Legard’s let the pressure of replacing James Allen get to him. Send your support to Jonathan!”

This petition will not run very fast because the focus is wrong.
A plea to replace one rubbish commentator with another (proven) rubbish commentator is absurd.
The idea that replacing Allen should be a question of pressure is equally ridiculous.
James had the advantage of being a genuine F1 journalist but that made him no better than Legard as a commentator.
Imo Allen was a far better commentator than Legard. He had interesting facts to talk about, he gelled really well with Brundle, and made boring races seem more lively. You don’t win an award for Grand Prix commentating very often, but they did
Is Jonathan Legard still commentating on BBC1 F1 races? His irrelevant and over-obvious commentary has long ago driven me to use the radio 5 live commentary. It is a shame because I do enjoy Martin’s incisive driver’s view comments which add considerably to the viewing experience.
Yes he’s still on there, and still as crap as ever. I wonder if BBC will consider James Allen for next season? Here’s hoping
Excellent post. If you need to listen to BBC Radio on the iPhone – I strongly recommend BBC Radio iPhone Streams – it is easily the quickest and most reliable way to listen to BBC Radio on the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and it’s free at BBCStreams.com.

need Legard gone, someone better than Allen to replace him though, a race caller who can put some of the excitement of being there that’s lost from the TV coverage. We had an english guy commentate on one of our overseas V8 Supercar races last year, his name was David Addison and his input contributed to the best V8 coverage I have seen.
Jonathan Legard is very talented. I like him as the commentator and I think he should stay. The only thing I don’t like is that it seems sometimes that he doesn’t know what to say and will say something stupid. Last year at monaco he said (about Rubens) ‘this is very much a, a pension year’ which wound me up so much because rubens is talented, he was at a team capable of winning.
Legard is still ruining the F1 for me, I want to hear Martin’s insight but the endless, pointless and usually inaccurate waffle from Legard is awful and doing my head in!
If he says once more “from” when listing the running order (Red Bull from McLaren from Ferrari …..) I will scream.
Given how much the fans disliked his style in his first season, what on earth were the Beeb thinking in reemploying him for this year??
