Because I am so damn clever, I have calculated the UK iPad prices based on an advanced formula of Apple overcharging us UK customers. This formula has remained a secret for years, but with my amazing knowledge and undying love for everything Apple, I will show you the way…
(US Price) / (Current Exchange Rate) + (£60)

Ok so here goes…
WiFi Model
- 16GB – £389
- 32GB – £469
- 64GB – £549
3G + WiFi Model
- 16GB – £489
- 32GB – £569
- 64GB – £649
If I’m wrong, I will buy each and every one of my readers a top of the line iPad. Actually, no, I won’t. I will just moan at the difference in price, then go ahead and order myself a top of the line one. Usual bloody story then.
Tom, I really hope you’re on the money with these prices. They do sound about right.
I was set on going for the 32GB WiFi model, but in recent weeks I have been thinking about the 32GB WiFi + 3G model. I will wait to see who the UK provider will be and more importantly what the price for the provider is before making a firm decision.
Bit dodgy for me as I have an O2 Mobile Broadband SIM that is costing me £30 a month! (Signed up for a 24 month contract to get a free Netbook!)
I need to know whether I can cut the SIM card down to the micro size and use it in the iPad. If not, I will just get the WiFi version me thinks!
But that means I have to either wait for someone to buy a 3G one and try the SIM Card trick, or risk it working myself? Could be another tomacintosh.com exclusive
Hahaha!
I can’t see myself needing 3G terribly for the iPad since I have it on my iPhone anyway, but it’s always nice to have the option, especially when I could afford that model. But again, that depends on the monthly contract cost :/
Comparisons to US prices is always dodgy. For a start US prices are quoted ex sales tax, so you need to do a conversion to £ and then add UK VAT. In the past I have gone as far as calculating how many “minimum wage” hours it would take to buy a product in the US and the UK. Generally the prices are about the same. With Apple being cheaper (less hours) in the UK and companies like Adobe being more expensive (more hours). This does not take into account the general cost of living and the amount of disposable income you may have.
However I think your guesses are about right. I would add may £15 to the middle models and £25 to the high end ones. The price of the monthly 3G contracts I am sure will be higher than in the US, which is a shame. Supply and demand, size of the market and all that.
Given that 64Gb is way smaller than my media collection and that a 128Gb+ model will be out next year, AND that 3G gives you a degree of always connected then I am going for the 32Gb WifI 3G model. The money I save in the initial purchase will pay for a few months of connectivity and some new music.
That was a wonderful read,I recently subscribed to your feed.
Based on the number of minimum wage hours need to buy an iPad they are cheaper in the UK compared to the USA. See my comparison here.
